H E A R T L A N D
Ten days before October 7th, I was eating hummus in the Old City.
Nearly two weeks moving through Israel and the West Bank — Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, Yad Vashem, Jericho, Bethlehem, and Aida Refugee Camp (the most tear-gassed place on Earth) — in the company of Palestinian guides, a Jewish rabbi, a Christian pastor, musicians, and philanthropists. Every place defies what you thought you knew about it.
This one more than most.
Ten days later, everything changed. These images are from just before.
